Question

‘A’ can complete a work in 20 days and is 20% more

efficient than ‘B’. ‘A’ and ‘B’ start the work together, but ‘A’ leaves after 10 days. The remaining work is completed by ‘B’ alone in ‘x’ days. Find the value of ‘x’.
A 2 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 3 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 1 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ, Time taken by ‘B’ to complete the work = 1.2 × 20 = 24 days Let the total work = 120 units Efficiency of ‘A’ = 120/20 = 6 units/day Efficiency of ‘B’ = 120/24 = 5 units/day Work completed by ‘A’ and ‘B’ in 10 days = (6 + 5) × 10 = 110 units Therefore, x = (120 – 110)/5 = 2 days
