    Solution

    Time taken by A to complete the whole work = 20/0.50 = 40 days Let total work = 280 units Amount of work done by A and B together in one day = 280/35 = 8 units Amount of work done by A alone in one day = 280/40 = 7 units Amount of work done by B in one day = 8 – 7 = 1 units Desired time = 0.125 × 280/1 = 35 days
