    thirty-six. Four years separate 'R' and 'D' in age. Determine the sum of total age (in years) between 'M' and 'R' if 'M' is 25% older than 'D'.

    ATQ, Let the present ages of 'R' and 'D' be 'a' and 'b' years respectively. So, (a - 8) + (b - 8) = 36 Or, a + b = 52 And, a = b - 4 So, b - 4 + b = 52 Or, 2b = 56 Or, 'b' = 28 Present age of 'R' = b - 4 = 28 - 4 = 24 years Present age of 'M' = 1.25 × 28 = 35 years Therefore, required sum = 24 + 35 = 59 years
