Question

Distance between two stations ‘P’ and ‘Q’ is 620

km. Train A starts from ‘P’ at 8:30 a.m. with the speed of 32 km/hr. and train B starts from ‘Q’ towards ‘P’ at 9 a.m. with the speed of 38 km/hr. What will be the distance between both trains at 11:30 p.m.?
A 420 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 429 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 320 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 453 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 451 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Distance travelled by train A in 30 min = 32/2 = 16 km Therefore, the remaining distance = 620 – 16 = 604 km Relative speed of the trains = 32 + 38 = 70 km/hr. Time = 11:30 p.m. – 9:00 a.m. = 5/2 hrs. Distance covered by both the trains = 70 × 5/2 = 175 km Distance between both the trains at 11:30 p.m. = 604 – 175 = 429 km
