    Two trains ‘A’ and ‘B’ started from station

    ‘P’ and ‘Q’ towards station ‘Q’ and ‘P’ respectively at the same time. When they met after 9 hours, train ‘B’ has travelled 130 km more than train ‘A’. Find the distance travelled by train ‘A’ in 12 hours if distance between both stations is 184 km.

    Solution

    Let distance travelled by train ‘A’ at the time of meet = ‘x’ km So, distance travelled by train ‘B’ at the time of meet = ‘x + 130’ km According to question; x + x + 130 = 184 => 2x = 54 => x = 27 Distance travelled by train ‘A’ in 9 hours = 27 km Speed of train ‘A’ = 27/9 = 3 km/h Distance travelled by train ‘A’ in 12 hours = 12 × 3 = 36 km
