Question

Train ‘A’ running with a speed of 18 km/h crosses a pole in 8 seconds. If the time taken by train ‘A’ to cross train ‘B’ running with a speed of 54 km/h and coming from the opposite direction is 10 seconds, then find the length of train B.

A 160 metres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 120 metres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 130 metres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 150 metres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Speed of train A = 18 × 5/18 = 5 m/s Length of train A = 5 × 8 = 40 metres Let length of train B = ‘l’ metres Speed of train B = 54 × 5/18 = 15 m/s Relative speed if train A with respect to train B = 15 + 5 = 20 m/s So, I + 40 = 20 × 10 = 200 So, l = 160 metres
