    A train takes 25 seconds to cross a platform and 5 seconds to cross a pole. If the length of the train is 60 metres less than the length of the platform, then find the length of the platform.

    Solution

    ATQ, Let the speed of the train be ‘x’ m/s. Length of the train = 5 × x = ‘5x’ metres So, length of the platform = (5x + 60) metres ATQ; (5x + 60 + 5x) ÷ 25 = x Or, 10x + 60 = 25x Or, 60 = 15x So, x = 4 Therefore, length of the platform = (4 × 5) + 60 = 80 metres
