      Question

A train takes 18 seconds to cross a platform and 6

seconds to cross a pole. If the length of the train is 70 metres less than the length of the platform, then find the length of the platform.(Calculate approx. value)
      A 195 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 266 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 140 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 100 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ, Let the speed of the train be β€˜x’ m/s. Length of the train = 6 Γ— x = β€˜6x’ metres So, length of the platform = (6x + 70) metres ATQ; (6x + 70 + 6x) Γ· 18 = x Or, 12x + 70 = 18x Or, 70 = 6x So, x = 11.67 Therefore, length of the platform = (11.67 Γ— 6) + 70 = 140 metres
