Question

A train takes 22 seconds to cross a platform and 9 seconds to cross a pole. If the length of the train is 50 metres less than the length of the platform, then find the length of the platform.

    A 150.25 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 266.6 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 166.5 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 123.3 m Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ, Let the speed of the train be ‘x’ m/s. Length of the train = 9 × x = ‘9x’ metres So, length of the platform = (9x + 50) metres ATQ; (9x + 50 + 9x) ÷ 22 = x Or, 18x + 50 = 22x Or, 50 = 4x So, x = 12.5 Therefore, length of the platform = (12.5 × 9) + 50 = 162.5 metres
