Question
The highest common factor (HCF) and the least common
multiple (LCM) of two numbers add up to 680. Additionally, the LCM is 84 times the HCF. If one of the numbers is 56, what is the other number?Solution
Let HCF of the number is ‘x’
LCM = 84 × x = 84x
So, 84x + x = 680
85x = 680
x = 8
Let the other number is ‘y’
Product of two numbers = LCM × HCF
So, 56 × y = 84 × 8 × 8
y = 96
