Question
A question is given, followed by two statements
numbered (I) and (II). You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements is sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and select the appropriate answer. Five persons L, M, N, O and P have different heights. Which person is the tallest person? Statements: (I) M is taller than N. P is taller than O. N is taller than L. (II) P is taller than both L and O. N is taller than P but shorter to M.Solution
From statement I alone, M is taller than N. P is taller than O. N is taller than L. We get: M > N > L and P > O But we cannot get the exact position. As, from the information given in statement I, we cannot determine the tallest person. So, data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question. From statement II alone, P is taller than both L and O. N is taller than P but shorter than M. We get: M (tallest) > N > P > L/O > O/L (shortest). As, from the information given in statement II, we get M is the tallest person. Therefore, data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question while data in statement I is not sufficient to answer the question.
