Question

A person starts from a point P and travels 5 km eastwards to Q and then turns left and travels thrice that distance to reach R. He again turns left and travels five times the distance he covered between P and Q and reaches his destination S. The shortest distance between the starting point and the destination is

A 15 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 25 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 28 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 30 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Draw PT ⊥ RS Then, RT = PQ = 5 km PT = QR = 15 km  ST = (RS – RT) = (25 – 5) km = 20 km In ∆PTS, PS = √ PT² + ST² =  √ 15² + 20² = √225 + 400 = √625 = 25 Km
