INC asked the people of India to observe 26th January, 1930 as Independence Day. The tricolor flag was hoisted publicly across India by Congress volunteers, nationalists, and the public. People took the Pledge of Independence, a pledge in which freedom was described as the right of the Indian people. Later, members of the Constituent Assembly of independent India chose 26 January 1950 for the Constitution of India to come into effect, in order to honour the date of the public declaration of Purna Swaraj.
