Question

In each question below are given three statements followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and II. You have to take the three given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the two given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.

    Statements: All frocks are skirts.

    No pant is a frock.

    Some dresses are pants.

Conclusions: I. Some skirts are not frocks.

II. At least some skirts are not pants.

III. At least some frocks are dresses.

A Only I follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Only II follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Only II and III follow Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D None follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

All frocks are skirts (A) ⇒ Conversion ⇒ Some skirts are frocks(I). Hence conclusion I does not follow. No pant is a frock(E) + All frocks are skirts(A) ⇒ Some skirts are not pants(O*). Hence conclusion II follows. Some dresses are pants(I) + No pant is a frock(E) ⇒ Some dresses are not frocks(O). Hence conclusion III does not follow.
