    Question

    In each question three statements followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III have been given. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements disregarding commonly known facts. 

    Statements:  All covers are glasses. Some

    caps are covers. No cup is a cap.  Conclusions:       I. Some cups are not covers. II. Some glasses are caps. III. Some covers are caps.

    Solution

    Some caps are covers (I) ⇒ conversion⇒  Some covers are caps (I) + No cap is a cup (E) ⇒ Some covers are not cups (O). Hence conclusion I does not follow.  Some caps are covers (I) +All covers are glasses (A) ⇒  Some caps are glasses (I) ⇒ conversion⇒ Some glasses are caps (I). Hence conclusion II follows.  Some caps are covers (I) ⇒ conversion⇒ Some covers are caps (I). Hence conclusion III follows.
