In the question below there are three statements followed by three conclusions I, II and III. You have to take the three given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the three statements disregarding commonly known facts.

    Statements :

Only a few Harpic is Lizol.

Only a few Lizol is Detergent.

    No Harpic is Pesticide.

    Conclusion :

    I. Every Pesticide can be Lizol.

II. Some Pesticides are not Detergents.

III. Some Detergents can be Harpics.

A Only conclusion III follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Only conclusion I and conclusion III follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Only conclusion I follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Only conclusion II and conclusion III follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None follows. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

No Harpic is Pesticide (E) → Conversion → No Pesticide is Harpic (E) + Only a few Harpic is Lizol (I) → Some Lizols are not Pesticides (O*) → Probable conclusion → All Pesticide can be Lizol (A). Hence conclusion I follows. No Harpic is Pesticide (E) → Conversion → No Pesticide is Harpic (E) + Only a few Harpic is Lizol (I) → Some Lizol are not Pesticide (O*). Only a few Lizol is Detergent (I) + Some Lizols are not Pesticides (O*) → No conclusion. Hence conclusion II does not follow. Only a few Harpic is Lizol (I) + Only a few Lizol is Detergent (I) → Probable conclusion → Some Detergents can be Harpics (I). Hence conclusion III follows.
