Question

In the question below there are four statements followed by three conclusions I, II and III. You have to take the three given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the four statements disregarding commonly known facts.

Statements: Each hand is pump. Every pump

is tap. Some hand are water. Conclusions: I. Some pump are water. II. No water is tap. III. Some tap are hand.
A Both conclusion I and conclusion III follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Only conclusion I follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C None of the conclusions follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Only conclusion III follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of the above Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Some hand are water (I) → Conversion → Some water are hand (I) + Each hand is pump (A) → Some water are pump (I) → Conversion → Some pump are water (I). Hence conclusion I follows. Negative conclusion cannot be drawn from positive statements. Hence conclusion II does not follow. Each hand is pump (A) + Every pump is tap (A) → All hand are tap (A) → Conversion → Some tap are hand (I). Hence conclusion III follows.
