Question

In the question below there are four statements followed by four conclusions I, II, III and IV. You have to take the four given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the four statements disregarding commonly known facts.

    Statements:

Only a few Street is Path.

    No Way is Path.

    All Roads are Ways.

    No Road is a Footpath.

    Conclusion:

    I. Some Ways can be Streets.

II. Few Roads are not Paths.

III. Every Ways can never be Streets.

IV. Every Footpaths can be Ways.

A Only conclusion I, III and IV follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Only conclusion I and III follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Only conclusion I, II and IV follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Only conclusion I and II follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E Only conclusion I, II and III follow. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Only a few Street is Path (I) + [No Way is a Path (E) → Conversion] → No Path is a Way (E) → Some Streets are not Ways (O) → Probable conclusion → Some Ways can be Streets (I). Hence conclusion I follows but conclusion III does not follow. All Roads are Ways (A) + No Way is a Path (E) → No Road is a Path (E) → Conversion → No Path is a Road (E) → Conversion → Some Roads are not Paths (O).Hence conclusion II follows. No Road is a Footpath(E) → Conversion →  No Footpath is a Road (E) + All Roads are Ways (A) → Some Ways are not Footpaths (O*)→ Probable conclusion → All Footpaths can be Ways (I). Hence conclusion IV follows.
