Question
In the following question below are given some
statements followed by some conclusions based on those statements. Taking the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusion logically follows the given statements. Statements: Some Petals are Flowers. Only a few Flowers are Trees. Some Trees are Roots. No Root is a Stem. Conclusions: I. Some Trees are not Roots. II. Some Trees are not Stems. III. Some Petals are not Trees. IV. Some Flowers are not Trees.Solution
Some Trees are Roots (I) → I.I. → No conclusion. Hence conclusion I does not follow. Some Trees are Roots (I) + No Root is a Stem (E) → Some Trees are not Stems (O). Hence conclusion II follows. Some Petals are Flowers (I) + Only a few Flowers are Trees (I) → No conclusion. Hence conclusion III does not follow. Only a few Flowers are Trees → Some Flowers are not Trees (I). Hence conclusion IV follows.
