संज्ञा के जिस रूप से एक वस्तु का दूसरी से अलग होना पाया जाए वह अपादान कारक कहलाता है। इसका हिन्दी पर्याय 'से' है। कर्त्ता अपनी क्रिया द्वारा जिससे अलग होता है, उसे अपादान कारक कहते हैं। जैसे – पेड़ से आम गिरा।

संज्ञा आदि शब्दों के जिस रूप से क्रिया के करने के साधन का बोध हो अर्थात् जिसकी सहायता से कार्य संपन्न हो वह करण कारक कहलाता है। इसके हिन्दी पर्याय 'से' के 'द्वारा' है। जिसकी सहायता से कोई कार्य किया जाए, उसे करण कारक कहते हैं। जैसे – वह कलम से लिखता है।
कर्म कारक की परिभाषा: किसी भी वस्तु या व्यक्ति द्वारा वाक्य में की गई क्रिया का प्रभाव पड़ता है, उसे कर्म कारक कहते हैं। कर्म कारक में 'को' विभक्ति चिन्ह का प्रयोग होता है।
