Dalip Kaur Tiwana – Noted Punjabi novelist

  • Noted Punjabi novelist Dalip Kaur Tiwana, 84, breathed her last. She is a Padma Shri recipient and Sahitya Akademi awardee.
  • In 2015, Tiwana had returned the Padma Shri bestowed on her to express solidarity with writers protesting against “suppression of freedom of expression and growing communalism

Pranab Kumar Gogoi – Former Assam Assembly Speaker

Former Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly and sitting Congress MLA Pranab Kumar Gogoi passed away at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was 84.

Jaswant Singh Kanwal – Punjabi novelist

  • Eminent Punjabi writer, novelist and Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Jaswant Singh Kanwal, died at his house in Dhudike village in Moga district in Punjab after a brief illness. He was 101.
  • Known as the ‘writer of movements’, Kanwal penned nearly 80 books and novels.

Raju Bharatan – Veteran film historian and cricket journalist

Veteran film historian and cricket journalist Raju Bharatan passed away following a prolonged illness. He was 86.

Giriraj Kishore- Padma Shri awardee and Well-known Hindi novelist

  • Well-known Hindi novelist and Padma Shri awardee Giriraj Kishore passed away in Kanpur. He was 83 years old.
  • Giriraj Kishore was best known for his novel ”Pehla Girmitiya” that was based on Mahatma Gandhi”s stay in South Africa.

P Parameswaran- Renowned thinker, writer

  • Renowned thinker, writer and the founder director of Bharatiya Vichara kendram P Parameswaran passed away at Ottapalam in Kerala.
  • He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2018 and Padma Shri in 2004. His last rites have been performed in his home town Muhamma in Alapuzha.

Wendell Rodricks- Padma Shri awardee fashion designer

  • Noted fashion designer and Padma Shri awardee Wendell Rodricks passed away at his Goa residence. He died at his due to a cardiac arrest.
  • He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2014 and was a recipient of Chevalier de I’Ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight of the order of arts and letters) in 2015.

Rajendra Pachauri- former IPCC head

  • The Indian environmentalist Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, under whose leadership a UN climate change panel shared the 2007 Nobel peace prize, has died after recent heart surgery. He was 79.
  • He chaired the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change panel from 2002 until he resigned in 2015 after an employee at his research firm accused him of sexual harassment.
